Going Green is Not Just For Big Business - You Can Grow Eco-Profits, Too!

The world of big business is making daily headlines by "going green" after discovering that what's good for the planet is also proving good for business.

IBM recently announced "Project Big Green," a $1 billion initiative to reduce energy consumption by offering new lines of energy-efficient IT products.

Wal-Mart is adding solar power to more than 20 stores.

PepsiCo is buying renewable energy certificates to offset its carbon footprint. Even major banks and energy firms are being asked by shareholders to prove that they, too, are going green.

It's not just the biggest businesses that are attracting new customers and shareholders and reaping huge profits by "going green." Small businesses also are growing eco-profits by embracing surprisingly inexpensive strategies to add value to their products, services and brand.

Consider these innovative examples:

- Bob Smith of Mad River Brewing Company in Blue Lake, California, has attracted positive publicity (and new customers) by promoting his efforts to reduce his small firm's waste output and take other environmentally conscious steps. In turn, he has received welcome positive publicity from the press. "What PR budget? That is our PR budget," he told the Albuquerque Tribune about "going green" to market his business.

- In Florida, Natalie Kelly formed Home Therapy Cleaning Services, which uses only nontoxic, all-natural cleaning products for her home cleaning business. She used to sell aromatherapy candles from her home, she told the St. Petersburg Times, but today uses an aromatherapy baking soda blend to freshen carpets.

Here's what you can do:

- Two inexpensive ways any small business or solo entrepreneur can go green are to change light bulbs to energy-efficient bulbs and use biodegradable cleaning products.

- With that done, tell your customers and the media about these simple ways to go green. You will have just earned instant credibility as a green business, and also as a media resource for simple, effective ways to "go green."

- Many communities online and offline are forming networks to exchange energy-saving ideas for home and business. Form your own energy network, enlisting neighborhood businesses that will welcome another opportunity to show they're going green, too. The plus for you is that you will have just positioned yourself and your business as a community environmental leader.

- Copy what the New York Times called "Phase 2" of the corporate response to global warming. Partner with an environmental group. Travelocity invites customers to donate an extra $10 to $40, which goes to the Conservation Fund to plant trees to offset the carbon used by a client to take a trip. Whole Foods invites customers to buy a $5 "wind power card" that goes to Renewable Choice Energy to build wind farms. What local environmental group can you partner with to promote on your Web site (and vice versa), to set aside a day that a percentage of profits will go to that organization or to make their fliers available at your business?

- Make use of readily available, free information to hand out with your business literature or to make available in your office. For example, create a one-page flier on your letterhead inviting clients to calculate their own carbon footprint by visiting http://www.nature.org/initiatives/climatechange/calculator/ or http://www.myfootprint.org/

- Go deeper green! Attend a "green" conference in your community or region, and promote your attendance. (Go to Google.com and type in "green" and "conference" and your area to find out when and where they are scheduled.) Write a "green" article on simple ways you are going green and submit it to one of the dozens of "green" Web sites and blogs that invite reader contributions. It's a great way to market your smart ideas and your business!

What Does Going Green Mean?

Going Green Means...

If you type in a search with the words, "what does going green mean?" you will find a million answers to the question. I think it is a good the question and it is about time we really think, I mean spend some time thinking about the meaning of going green.

I lived in the south for good part of my life. The logging industry is big in south Mississippi and at times, the loggers would find spikes driven into the trees they were going to cut for paper to stop the green from being cut. This sabotage does not fit the description of going green. Actually, a person who risks another person's life over a tree is a fool and a criminal. You can go green without being a fanatical treehugger.

What does going green mean and where do you start? Going green means returning to natural, healthy methods of living. It means breathing fresh air, eating healthy foods, conserving our forest and wild life and using alternative medicines when possible. I guess if you could sum up the meaning of going green, it would involve using common sense. No, don't dump the oil from your car in the river. Use a water filter in your home. Take a clothe bag to the store and use all natural cleaners in the home or make your own cleaners out of natural ingredients. Come on, going green is not that difficult.

Most of us today are attempting to go green. You certainly don't have to be fanatical about this project just be diligent. Start slowly, but start today going green. Let me give you a formula to follow to get started.

Formula for Going Green

1. Turn the water off when you not using it.

2. Learn how to wash your car water free or with 3 gallons of water.

3. Take clothe bags to the store. Try it you can do this.

4. Walk when you can or car pool, use less gas.

5. Buy all natural, organic food products for a change.

6. Buy a simple little water filter.

7. Use all natural cleaners in your home and on your car.

Why don't you make a list of things you could do to start the journey into the green world with out going fanatical? In addition, it would be good to come up with your own definition of going green. Whatever you decide to do in regards to going green, make sure it is a good for you, your family and the world.

Going Green Saves You Green - Money

Going green is a popular term used today. Today we have become slaves of technology. We are totally dependent on machines, vehicles for transportation etc. which run on oil, gas, electricity and other forms of energy. These machines, vehicles emit harmful chemicals and pollute our surroundings. We can go green by minimizing or completely avoiding use of non-toxic cleaning products, avoiding use of plastic, rubber, recycling the trash, minimizing the use of appliances with a heating element, avoiding use of chemical fertilizers, etc.

Being green will not only make our earth a safe place to live but will also help to save money. Some studies show green buildings can cut energy bills 30 percent and increase employee productivity 10 to 15 percent by creating a healthier work environment. Broadly speaking going green can benefit the environment, society and individuals in many ways, such as:

Less consumption of oil, water & natural resources: Much of the energy is consumed for cooling, heating and other miscellaneous work. 20% and more of the U.S.'s yearly energy are consumed inside our homes. Electronic and household appliances which still consume energy even while turned off called "phantom loads". Most of this energy is derived from oil and gas which are the major contributors to global warming. However, a green home can actually reduce our energy use up to 40% and its water use by 50% thus reducing its impact on our planet.

Improves and enhances quality of life: Going green means using natural, non-toxic materials and products which is healthier and safer for you and the environment. It avoids using chemicals, toxic and poisonous products in our day to day life, which has harmful effects on our health, our family and our pets. These toxic chemicals are not just dangerous pollutants inside our home, they are equally as dangerous to our outside environment where they can seep into our rivers, lakes and streams and contaminate the ground water that we, as well as animals, depend on to drink.

Helps to saves money: Being green or green homes usually use natural ways to keep their homes cool or warm by making use of trees. Thus saving hundreds of dollars every year.

Enhances productivity and efficiency: Going-green helps us to have green cities which in turn have clean air, water and pleasant streets and parks. Thus promotes healthy environment which increases human efficiency and productivity by 15 to 20% and boost economic growth.

Improves and ensures good health: Green cities and towns have clean, fresh air to breathe, pure water as a result the risk of major infectious disease outbreaks is low thus ensuring good health.

Maintains ecological balance: Due to unnatural habits and ways of living, increased use of harmful chemicals, toxic pollutants our planet is facing the threat of global warming, unpredictable seasons, low rainfall, increased temperature. By going-green we can help to saves and protects our planet from harmful effects of chemicals, pollutants, toxic gasses, etc. Also we can help to conserve natural resources which are scarce.
Benefits of going green not only save you money but also it provides cleaner, healthier environment to live.

To Grandmother's House We Go [VHS]

To Grandmother's House We Go [VHS]When they overhear their stressed-out single mom (Northern Exposure's Cynthia Geary) calling them "a handful," twins Julie and Sarah decide to give mom a break and go to grandma's for Christmas. So they stuff their backpacks and stow away on a city bus, beginning an odyssey that will first find them in a delivery van operated by Roy Rogers-obsessed driver Eddie (soap opera veteran J. Eddie Peck). Then a karate chop to Eddie's head later, they're at the mercy of a happily married pair of thieves (Rhea Perlman, Jerry Van Dyke) and, ultimately, a team of spooked runaway horses posing as reindeer. Luckily Eddie already has a crush on Mom, who manages his favorite mini-mart, and together the pair track down the missing twins, who, meanwhile, are having the ride of their lives. The Olsen twins are in their Full House bloom in this 89-minute made-for-TV movie, which means their brand of innocuous brattiness is still more charming than annoying. Perlman and Van Dyke get to ham it up as lovable criminals, and Geary and Peck find G-rated romance once he adjusts to the idea that his mini-mart sweetie has kids and he learns to share his Lotto winnings. Going Green With Green Baby Gifts

How can you go green with green baby gifts? What are the best types of green baby gifts to give? There are 3 general ways of going green when shopping for babies:

1) Buy gifts that are good for the environment,

2) Give gifts that are environmentally friendly as well as healthy for the baby, and

3) Green your shopping and giving habits.

1) Buy baby gifts that are good for the environment. Buy products that are made from recycled material and are easily recyclable. Bamboo products are a new and good trend. Clearing bamboo releases a lower level of carbon into the atmosphere. It is easily replaced and it grows fast. It's also very biodegradable.

2) Environmentally friendly and healthy gifts for your baby are another way of going green. Shop for organically made clothing, made with non-toxic materials. Baby's bodies are especially susceptible to toxins in the air. Brain research shows that the first 6 months of a child's development are the most crucial and the brain needs fresh air, good nutrition, and a safe environment throughout childhood.

3) Green your shopping and giving habits. Save gas and energy by shopping online. You can often find special deals only available online. When in doubt, give gift certificates. These saving on packaging, travel, and give the freedom for your friends to spend more money on their babies in the way they want. There are many great Organic and environmentally-friendly products for babies (to check out some of these gifts, follow me through the resource box below). Use recycled wrapping paper. Instead of wrapping paper, use ribbons. A lot of gifts look great with only a ribbon around them- very stylish and saves a lot of trees. Or consider putting gifts in reusable gift bags. Give green gifts by greening your shopping habits.

Doing these three things will help make our babies save and healthy now, and help renew the earth for our babies to live healthy when they grow up. For some ideas of excellent green baby gifts and more green gift ideas, check out my resource box below. You'll also find more tips on going green.

Going Green - Saving Money With Green Energy

Going Green - Saving Money sounds like a big come-on, doesn't it? Well, it is not. And the good news, is I can prove it. I can put my money where my mouth is...in fact, I already did. And it turns out I am saving money on my electric bill! That is not an easy thing to do in this economy, but every month I am saving as much as 30 percent on my electric bill and now my electric power comes from renewable green energy sources and I did not spend a dime to change over to solar or wind power.

How Can I Use A Green Power Source

How can I save money and go green? Let me show you. This only took me two minutes of my time. A few minutes to learn how to save up to 20 or 25 percent a month on your electric bill?

Have you wanted to live a green life style but just did not know how to take advantage of renewable energy sources? I understand because that was what I wanted too. I did not know how to live a greener life style so I just kept on recycling my cans, glass and papers. I felt like, big deal, I want to make an impact and though I know recycling is a good thing, it did not feel like I was doing enough. After all the environment is calling out for help. Our Planet and its resources are in danger and our future generations need our help.

You do not have to set up solar panels or put a wind farm in your backyard to use power from renewable energy sources. In fact with electric deregulation we can now decide where we want our energy to come from. You get to choose, fossil fuels or clean green renewable energy sources...which would you pick?

Of course you would choose green, most people would. Only those die-hard types who refuse to admit we have a crisis situation with regard to the Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming would not choose to go green. Even if all the evidence we have that points to Global Warming was incorrect, why wouldn't someone want to use renewable energy as compared to fossil fuel sources which will run out and are pollutants? That just does not make sense. And that is exactly how to save money and to go green, by choosing a third party energy supplier who delivers energy from green sources.

So let us all begin to make sense today. Please, do not take my word for it...after all, you do not know me. I am just someone who put words on a web site. You will, after you check out what I am saying, trust me and you will also thank me...just like I thank the person who pointed me in this new, exciting directions with this Green Energy Source.

I actually looked into getting Solar Panels on my house a year or so ago. The government was offering a huge rebate and I thought that would be a great way to start going green saving money also came into play. But it was so expensive initially to purchase and install the panels that I gave up on that renewable energy idea very quickly. I am just an average Jill and do not have tens of thousands of dollars to set up an energy source...even if I am all for the idea and want to do it. If I had the funding I would have...but I do not. I was disappointed too. But you know they say, "When one door closes, another opens" and I believe that the Solar panel door shut because this new FREE Go Green solution was coming my way. And I am thankful is every Green way that it did.

So do not take my word for it, see for yourself, get the facts, investigate and when you are done, I will see you on the other side...The GREEN Side. And not only will you trust me, you will thank me and I in turn will Thank You for being smart enough to look into this wonderful Go Green Idea. Today we can choose our energy service provider and that means we can also choose the type of energy our providers deliver to us. That is how you can go green right now and when you do the math you will see it will be cheaper for you too.

If you live in New Jersey, New York, Connectitcut, Maryland or Illinois, you can switch over to green energy today. If you live in the other states you will be able to switch over soon. Find out more about this money saving energy plan so you can save money and go green too.

Going Green-Saving Money with Green Energy Sources. http://iamgreenenergy.com is the way for you to use green energy, save money and it is free...it also only takes two minutes. Find a way to go green without installing expensive alternate renewable power sources. Free is the key word, Green is another...haven't you wanted to become less dependent on fossil fuel sources? Well now you can and it is easy, free and HONEST.

Please, do yourself a favor...just take the extra step to find out if what I am saying is the truth. http://www.iamgreenenergy.com Check it out today. No money, no cost, No contracts, NO LIES...Please feel free to comment at my article source if you are not satisfied about what I am telling you.

If I sound corny in this article it is because I am so from my head to my toes excited to finally be able to go green and save money without having to spend a fortune to do so. I love this idea and I am sure you will too. Here's to you, my new Green friend!

Going Green at Home - Why More Homeowners Are Choosing This Path

Everyday, an increasing number of people are going green at home.  Homeowners choose to go green for a number of reasons:  some wish to save money while others want to create a cleaner environment for their families and for the world.  Homeowners are starting to be educated more about eco-friendly lifestyles, and many are finding that going green at home is actually pretty easy!

There are plenty of ways to go green, and many are simple and affordable.  Although using solar panels is recommended, there are plenty of other less time consuming ways of going green at home.  To begin with, homeowners can use recyclable, non-toxic products.  Cutting down on cleaning chemicals and opting for organic cleaning supplies is very easy and affordable.  Using natural, cleaning supplies is also a great way to improve health!

Homeowners can also recycle products that they no longer need.  Paper, plastic, cans, and bottles add up after awhile, especially in large households.  Gathering them all up and recycling them regularly is a wonderful idea.  This is probably one of the most obvious ways of going green at home, and more families are finding out just how easy it is to do!  Recycling is not only easy and free, but it can also be a great way to earn a bit of extra money!

Some homeowners are seeking ways to decrease their heating bills during the winter and air conditioning costs in the summer.  Believe it or not, fans can be used to help with both!  Sometimes heat stays near the ceiling in the winter, and air conditioners can push it down.  Going green at home can be as simple as placing a fan or two in every room.

Going green at home is a very serious matter, yet it's also easy to do. If you're interested in going green at home, then there are plenty of affordable, simple things you can do to make your home a cleaner place. Make sure you read about all the tips you can find on going green.

Small Businesses and the Benefits of Going Green

Until recently, going green was something only larger businesses could afford to do. Recycled products and other green materials were simply too expensive and cost prohibitive for small businesses. However, as the green movement has grown, new products and production methods have hit the market making it possible for even small businesses to engage in the process of going green.

If you are looking to start a business and want to start off green or are looking for a way to change, your business or products into green products there are a few things to note. The benefits are well worth the expense even if you might not directly see those benefits. One of the biggest aspects of going green is reducing the footprint that is left on the environment.

"Impact footprint" includes materials and energy that are used from the environment. For example, a product that is made from a resource that is not renewable is going to have a greater environmental impact than the same object made from a product that is renewable. Materials such as steel that can be reused practically in their entirety even when melted down and reshaped have less of an impact than materials, which cannot be recycled.

Consumers have become increasingly aware of the impact that products have on the environment. As a result, these consumers have begun to purchase products, which are classified as green products and purchase from companies, which engage in green practices. The benefit of having these customers is that they tend to purchase products from companies they can trust repeatedly and regularly. They recommend and spread the word about companies which have a reduced environmental footprint and who engage in green practices and supply green products. They also are willing to spend a little extra or in some cases a lot extra in order to obtain these products and purchase from green companies.

They tend to purchase locally and often times purchase from smaller businesses since these businesses as a rule tend to have an easier time going green or starting out using green methods. Internet marketing helps small businesses reduce the amount of paper used. Everything from accounting to payroll and even applications and ordering can be done via the internet. Shipping materials now come in a variety of environmentally friendly options.

Even if you cannot go completely green, letting customers know you're attempting to lessen your businesses impact on the environment can help bring environmentally conscience customers to your business. Every business whether they are service or product oriented can benefit from going green. The benefits are numerous. Some of them include lessening the effect of your business on the environment, obtaining customers who are willing to spread the word, spend extra and are part of a rapidly increasing market that surpasses economic standings, age, and other market discriminating factors. Going green can offer small businesses the opportunity to reach markets and people who might otherwise be out of their target areas.

Going Green - How New Home Owners and Tenants Can Help the Environment

Moving into your newly purchased or rented home can be stressful and frustrating. But, once all of your boxes have been unpacked and you have everything in its place, you feel relief as you can finally call your new house a home. Many new home owners are now going green to do their part to reduce carbon emissions and help save the environment, not to mention save money. Going green isn't difficult; you just have to adjust a few of your regular routines and activities in your home to make a difference.

City officials in London have started a campaign to help homeowners and tenants do their part and contribute to going green in their homes and neighbourhoods. The 10:10 initiative hopes to make people aware of the current environmental crisis and encourage them to go green. The aim of the 10:10 campaign is to reduce carbon emissions by 10% by 2010. Environmentalists believe that people should encourage each other to go green in the hope that home owners as well as Central London estate agents who sell these homes will join the initiative.

Buying or renting a new home is a great opportunity to apply green living solutions. By implementing a few home tips and being aware of the energy that you are using, you will be able to help the global go green initiative. Going green in your home you will help reduce your home's carbon footprint, conserve energy and save money.

An energy efficient home is a home that has replaced high energy products with greener products. Household items such as geysers, lights, fridges and ovens use a high amount of electricity and energy and all of these items can be adjusted or even replaced with solar products. For example, replacing all of your regular lights with LED or solar lights will make a small but significant impact in your home. You can save heating costs by insulating your roof as this will keep in the warmth in during colder months. Placing a specially made geyser blanket on your geyser will keep the water in the geyser warmer for longer. If you want to know the exact amount of energy that you consume in a month, why not install an energy monitor to keep track of energy consumption.

There are also other more obvious yet commonly overlooked ways in which you can participate in going green in your home. By buying green friendly products, recycling all your glass and paper and switching off lights and appliances when they are not in use, you can contribute to saving energy.

There are ways in which going green will help cut carbon emissions in your home that you have recently bought or begun to rent. Many feel that their efforts to try and reduce energy consumption will be nothing more than a small drop in a very big ocean. However, if there is a mass movement for change, going green will have a significant impact on our planet and our future.

Moms - 3 Going Green Tips For Baby That Save You Money

Once upon a time... not that very long ago, really, green was pretty much just a color - people just naturally paid more attention to money, not the environment, and "going green" meant changing you kitchen's color scheme. But no more: we're all trying to save money and be eco-friendly these days, so here are some tips that will help you go green and save money to boot on baby products.

Going Green Tips: Recycled, Repurposed Clothing

Let's face it, no one wants to spend big bucks these days on baby clothes, especially when your tot or toddler is growing out of everything almost daily. One way to both go green and save money on kids' clothes is to get comfortable with the concept of recycled and repurposed kids' clothing. Get together with a group of friends (and friends of friends to widen the circle) and have a clothing tradeoff. Check out local swap meets and garage sales, which often offer brand new items at bargain basement prices. And save gas money and carbon emissions by shopping online - many parents are selling used and new baby clothes on eBay or other online outlets. Check out the photos and item descriptions carefully and keep an eye out for items that are NWT (new with tags) or NIB (new in box) or large lots of pre-worn clothes that can look good as new after a good wash (in eco-friendly detergent, of course!)

Going Green Tips: Green Cleaning

Baby and everyone in the house will benefit - both environmentally and financially - if you make some household cleaning products yourself. It's less expensive than buying commercial products, and these homegrown green cleaners use less harsh chemicals (a special bonus for delicate baby skin!) For starters, you can make an all-purpose cleaning scrub with baking soda, water and a few drops of vegetable-based liquid soap.

Distilled white vinegar can be put to a number of green cleaning uses, including:

* Using a spray bottle, combine 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of borax and hot water; shake until the borax is dissolved, add a few drops of vegetable-based liquid soap, and you've got a terrific all-purpose green clear for just about any surface in the house.

* Add 1 cup of vinegar to the final rinse in the washing machine to help break down soapy residue and make clothes fresh and soft - especially helpful with diapers and baby clothes!

Why Going Green is So Important

At one time, going green seemed like something a little out of the ordinary: the neighbor who jumped on his exercise bike every time he wanted a smoothie, or the Hollywood starlet "caught" recycling by the tabloids whenever she needed a little positive press. These days, however, being green is a full-blown movement that has become downright trendy. Trends aside, incorporating green techniques into daily life can have an important impact on the environment and your budget.

The Facts

Ultimately, going green is about small steps and simple choices each day. By recycling your aluminum cans, you can help to save energy: in fact, more than 50 million recycled cans reduced U.S. oil usage by 15 million barrels in 2009. Placing recyclable items in the recycling bin instead of throwing them away can limit landfill waste by as much as 75%. Reducing water use can ensure fresh water for the future and also add a little to your budget. A ten-minute shower uses about 40 gallons of water. By cutting the shower time in half - or even just shaving a couple of minutes off - you can limit waste.

Benefits

Going green in small areas can make an impact on your budget. For example, natural cleaners such as baking soda and vinegar are as effective as standard cleaning supplies and considerably cheaper. Starting your own vegetable garden can be cost effective and enable you to eat fresh, seasonal produce. Additionally, buying in bulk is a green option, because it enables you to make fewer trips to the grocery store and to spend less in the long run.

Considerations

In some cases, going green can get a little costly. Adding solar panels to your roof is expensive. Unless you live in a sunny location, the panels can take decades to pay off. But going green is not so much about incorporating all of the available green options as it is about using less and reusing when possible. Using rags instead of paper towels, turning off lights, and taking shorter showers can all add up to going green.

Expert Insight

On average, a family of four in the U.S. emits more than 20 tons of carbon dioxide annually. Taken across the U.S., this amounts to more than 20% of the world population's carbon dioxide emissions (with only 5% of the world's population living in the U.S.). Environmental scientists believe that carbon dioxide emissions contribute to rising global temperatures. Melting glaciers can cause the sea levels to rise and result in massive flooding. Plants and animals can become extinct if they are unable to adjust to a change in temperature. Environmentalists note that making even small changes in everyday life - the mantra of "reduce, reuse, and recycle" - can have a big impact on reducing emissions and ensuring the continuity of life.

Time Frame

For those who are new to going green, there is no rush to incorporate all of the changes at once. Instead, consider making one to two changes per week or per month, depending on your lifestyle. This might be as simple as switching to non-toxic cleaning products or as life-changing as riding a bike to work every day. Whatever you do, look at going green as a process instead of an end result.

Going Green With Your Work From Home Business Franchise

Whether you're worried about global warming, leaving a greener earth for the next generation or simply saving a lot of money each month, going green has benefits for you, your business and everyone else you share the planet with. While many larger corporations have to focus on their carbon footprints, even to the extent of buying carbon credits to offset their own pollution, many small businesses may not see the immediate appeal to going green, especially if it means decreasing your profit margins.

This, however, is simply not the case. When you go green with your small business, you reduce consumption of everything from utilities to paper products, support other green businesses and often times you will increase the amount of business your company does. This is because these days, when given the choice between the two, most consumers will choose the greener alternative, even if it means paying a premium for it. If you're ready to go green with your home business, or are just curious what the process involves, take a look at some of the easiest and most effective ways to go green and some fast-growing business opportunities that have already implemented many of these green habits.

Probably the biggest money saver and environmentally friendly move you business can make is to reduce consumption. It may seem like something you've heard over and over again, but take a look at some easy ways to save energy, and how quickly the costs add up.

1. Turn lights off when you leave a room (or better yet, install an inexpensive motion detector that will automatically turn lights on when you enter the room, and turn them off when you leave).

2. Set your power options on your work computers to save as much energy as possible; nearly every modern computer will have sleep or hibernation modes that can automatically engage when the computer is idle for a set amount of time.

3. Try to line up all of your trips outside of the home office so that you can accomplish all of your errands in one trip. Switch from paper receipts and invoices to digital whenever possible.

Of course, your mileage will vary when it comes to how much you can save by reducing your consumption, but speaking as a work from home entrepreneur, these were just the quick numbers based on my averages for a month, by just doing those three simple things, I would save between $25 and $50, depending on the time of year. This may not seem like an overwhelming amount of money, but consider that you're helping the environment, you're potentially attracting clients that will be impressed by your "green" status, and think about taking these principles and applying them to 20 or 30 other areas of your business, and the numbers start to add up pretty quickly.

Turning off lights and using less energy is great, but another great way to go green, attract more customers and become more cemented in your community is to support other green businesses. If you startup a teriyaki restaurant, buy your to-go boxes from a supplier that offers recycled cardboard instead of Styrofoam. If your business ships a lot of packages, buy your packing supplies from a supplier that will use recycled newspaper or biodegradable packing peanuts. Buying products that are recycled or products that can be recycled will attract green-thinking customers to your business as well as foster cross-promotion between your business, your green suppliers and a network of other green businesses in town. The list really goes on and on, and once you begin to think about how some of these principles can apply specifically to your business, you will begin to say plenty of new ways to save money, save the planet and even boost your own sales. If, however, you don't currently own a small business or are looking to start a new one, here's a couple work from home franchises that are currently available, and are going everything they can to make their franchises as green as possible.

DVDNow is a franchise that you may have seen popping up in the local grocery store in your neighborhood. This franchise takes a traditional video store and crams it into a vending machine sized kiosk full of the most popular rentals and new releases. How is this green? Consider that the overwhelming majority of DVD rentals are new releases, so having a machine that can rent out the most popular titles does the work of an entire video store, but only consumes a small fraction of the electricity, and none of the heating or other necessities of a retail store.

Vehicle Tracking Solutions provides GPS tracking systems for company cars and fleet vehicles for small, medium and even large corporations. Consider how much fuel could be saved each year if every car in a company's fleet knew how to get to their destination, taking the route with the least amount of mileage. Another way to save is for companies to get creative with their route planning; consider that several major delivery companies have saved millions of dollars each year in fuel and productivity by choosing routes with only right turns instead of sitting and waiting for left turn lights to change.

Going green is a great idea for any business owner (or potential business owner). Saving money on your overhead, increasing your potential client base, even special tax breaks in certain states makes going green a no-brainer for any fiscally responsible business owner. Tack on the fact that you'll actually be contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment and its easy to see why green is the new black.

    AmazonBasics Remanufactured Replacement Toner
AmazonBasics remanufactured replacements are a value alternative to the name brand. This replacement toner cartridge is made in the USA from new and recycled components. It is neither sponsored nor endorsed by Brother. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

By using this remanufactured product, you are reducing the amount of waste being deposited into landfills. Instead of using a newly manufactured toner, by purchasing this remanufactured version you are participating in the highest form of recycling: re-use. While not every component within the toner can be reused, we do re-use those components that meet our quality standards and replace the rest with new quality components.

Environmental stewardship is an important practice, and our goal is to re-use as many of the components as possible without degrading product performance. When the cartridges are no longer remanufacturable, or components no longer adhere to our quality specifications, the components will be disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner. For example, the metals will be stripped from the cartridge body and sent to a local recycler, the plastics are sent for conversion to waste energy, and corrugate box materials are locally recycled. We also use electro-coagulation to treat manufacturing waste water, use degradable black bags to protect sensitive cartridge components during shipping, and our facility recycles cans, bottles and paper products.

    STMC--Certified for Quality and Value
Our manufacturer's dedication to developing and following documented practices has earned them STMC (Standardized Test Methods Committee) certification for their testing practices.

Every toner cartridge begins with a thorough inspection process to ensure only those cartridges that can be returned to full functionality are used. We use technicians that are trained not just on the equipment they operate, but on the processes and procedures required to produce a quality, value cartridge.

First, the technicians disassemble the cartridges to inspect each critical wear component to determine if it should be re-used or replaced. The cartridge is then moved to the filling operation where precision machinery deposits toner formulated for the specific cartridge type. Before shipping, the cartridge is tested to confirm that it works correctly.

When you receive your new AmazonBasics remanufactured replacement toner cartridge, if you'd like to recycle your used toner cartridge, from any manufacturer, simply go to the helpful hints on this page for recycling instructions.

Does Going Green Mean You Have to Be a Tree Hugger?

So many people think that going green means they have to completely change everything about their lifestyle and become a tree hugger. Nothing could be farther from the truth. All you have to do is make a few small changes to go green. If you try to make huge changes, you will probably give up and return to your old ways, so it is best to make small changes to start.

Let me give you an example of what I am talking about. I do the grocery shopping in my family. I bought a few canvas sacks and carry them with me when I go to the grocery store. This is going green. I still drive my pick up truck to the store and that is not going green, but my truck was bought years before going green was even on my radar screen. If I had to change my entire life to go green, I would have to get rid of the truck and get a Prius. I simply am not going to do that just yet, but I will probably buy a greener vehicle when I am in the market for a new car. Does this make sense? Going green can be a slow gradual process.

I used to brush my teeth with the water running. Today, I turn the water off until I need it. That is going green and it is a small change but it matters. I suppose I will someday change out my toilet to a low water green toilet. It's just that I am not ready to do it just now.

My gas powered lawn mower broke. I was happy to use it until it broke, but since it broke, I looked into green lawn mower alternatives. I bought an electric mower and I love it. I have a couple of posts about it on this blog. I am not being fanatical about going green. I just thought it might be a good alternative that also solved a safety issue I had with my son. The green aspect is just a nice by-product of the purchase.

What I am trying to say is this. Don't let the fanatical tree hugging green people put you on a guilt trip for not becoming totally green. Do it slowly. Make one change and then make another when you are ready. Eventually you will see that it is easy to make significant changes but you do not have to be fanatical about it.

Going Green for the Good of the Planet

Going green can relieve the strain on the earths' resources

If you are interested in the environment, you are now fully aware that there are many people concerned about the future of the planet. Will resources continue to be replenished as populations increase? Are supplies really unlimited.

The leading environmental scientist, researchers and politicians, however agree that going green action is needed now, although they may differ on how it should be done.

The need for serious action appears to becoming drastic, more green businesses are needed as industries need to stop polluting, governments need to support clean alternative energy programs and waste reduction programs should be implemented at the community levels.

An entire industry is developing around going green

Environmental protection or going green jobs appear to one of the fastest growing segments in employment. However it is not just governments, industries and communities that should be accountable, but every single individual can make a significant contribution toward cleaner greener world.

Going green should not be too difficult. There are simple lifestyle changes that can result in less damage to the environment.

It involves an holistic way of thinking that involves alternate choices about what you purchase and the effects they may have on the overall well being of the planet.

Scientific understanding about going green is constantly evolving and practical suggestions for the greener lifestyle are being adopted, but the pace appears to need acceleration.

Going green accepts as fact that there challenges facing the planet.Understanding these challenges and finding solutions are the top concerns of the environmentalists, many of whom believe that humans beings whether knowingly or unknowingly are responsible for damaging both the visible and invisible environment.

It is generally accepted that the earths' climate is changing, but there are other important issues of equal importance.

Resources are being consumed at what appears to be unsustainable rates.
Industrial processes are contributing harmful chemicals and waste
Rising populations are contributing more waste to the planets

Going green brings hope to the future

Green living can start at home, including the construction and design of your home. There are multiple ways that waste can be reduced. The bigger bonus is that going green is often cheaper by focusing on buying and using less on things like utilities, and reusing and recycling as much as possible. The pleasing side effect is that you save money.

Implementing some going green living ideas, may require cash outlay, but even these suggestions are likely to pay for themselves in the long run.

A worldwide initiative is developing around Green businesses and green living.
Individuals are also required to make simple contributions.

A Few Simple Going Green Tips to Save Environment

Everywhere, everyone has started learning the going green tips. There are many go green movements and it is our duty to take part and go green as much as possible. Here are few going green tips that would bring change in our life style and save some cash.

    Going Green In House

    1. Close the running tap water, when not needed.

    2. Use the dishwasher, when the dishes are full. Try to avoid using it more often i.e. for each single plate.

    3. Try to be cautious in using water. Turn off taps when not used. By this way, it is estimated every home can save more than a gallon of water, which is very high when combined in a local.

    4. Turning off Lights and saving electricity as much as possible is also a way to go green. During the daytime, it is good to open windows and screens to let sunlight in and fill house with warmth. After all, sunlight is essential for body in the form of vitamin A.

    5. The local power company would be able to provide a free presentation on how to make the home a better energy efficient home.

Going Green with Recycling and Reusing

    1. Giving away unwanted or unusable materials to free service organizations is a better way to start going green.

    2. Reusing the furniture would save some extra money spent on newer furniture. For example, one can remodel a table by adding sheets of wood to it and create his own wardrobe.

    3. Recycling paper, plastics, glass and metals could also be done by making use of the local trash pickup service.

    4. Instead of simply throwing older items, one can use his creativity in creating the essence out of them. Going Green

Currently we are facing dire economical and ecological times. Recent changes and breakdowns in several industries have left millions unemployed; as they are forced to watch their finances dwindle or disappear altogether. In addition, our reluctance to embrace a burgeoning emphasis on finding sustainable methods to supply our needs has placed an ever increasing drain on our environment and natural resources. Many have suggested that going green is the way to economical and ecological recovery. Some see it as a way to decrease their carbon footprint, and others see it as a means to create new job opportunities in a waning economy.

Going green is a concept that has been receiving a lot of attention lately. I'd be lying if I said the concept was gaining rave revues. The truth is, many are at odds with regard to the impact that going green could have, with regards to it's timeliness to effectively impact our environment or it's ability to save those who choose this option any money at all. While it's true that going green often presents hefty up front pricing with promises of savings on the back-end, all endeavors to go green don't have to break the bank.

What I have to offer won't provide economical recovery, unless you consider the dollars you may save by using some of these tips for going green, but it will offer you an opportunity to begin to consider "green" with your next design project, which may direct you in a path to consider "green" as a way of living, and could decrease your ecological impact on the environment.

Here are a few things to consider that may give you the green thumb of approval:

Recycled Goods - This isn't just limited to paper and plastic or our traditional concept of recycling, but also includes the re-use of products. If your redesign requires wood products, consider reclaimed lumber or reclaimed flooring as an alternative. (this is often wood that has been salvaged from old buildings)

Painted Floors - This could be a very inexpensive step towards going green. If your floors are in desperate need of new life consider painting them. If you choose this option, make sure you do your homework to find the most appropriate technique to ensure your painted floors last, and remember to purchase paints that are low VOC's. (VOC stands for volatile organic compound)

Green Building Supplies - If your home redesign is a bit exhaustive, you may wont to consider finding local designers or architects that specialize in green design. If you're into doing it yourself, you can always do a little digging and find companies that provide green products. Here's one that I found while doing a quick Internet search. (http://www.slogreengoods.com/) Green building supplies are typically those that are considered eco friendly, natural or organic products, are easily renewable, and omit low to no VOC's.

Green Energy - While this is more mechanical, it may very well be a component of your home redesign. It could be as simple as improving the insulation of your home to decrease your energy consumption, or considering geo-thermal or solar energy as an option for heating and cooling your home.

Awareness - Lastly, the most important step you can take in going green is becoming aware of what you options are and exploring the many avenues for going green. Seek out local agencies that may be able to better direct you and educate you in your effort to go green.
